Honey out of a Jar
Dear God,
Life is perhaps, like honey pouring out gently from an open jar. It's slow and viscous movement, resembles the many events that unfold in every moment, and the taste of life much resembles the sweet sharpness of honey. But to see life this way, requires a way of life that is not hurried, that is not rushing, that is not too eager for some desired result.
Our modern culture, has drenched us neck deep in pleasure. Happiness is only a click away now, or rather, only a tap away. Going by technological advancement, is it perhaps only a thought away. And so, we've gone mad, chasing that glory pleasure, in every second, every moment. Click and you can listen to the best songs ever, click and you can watch the best sights ever, tap and you can eat the most delicious treats ever! And so we are running, chasing, one pleasure after another. So happiness, pleasure, dopamine, is evidently very very easy to find.
But where does that relentless chase leave us? In between those moments of ecstasy, we are filled with longing and anxiety, itching for that next shot of joy, be it a nice reel or some video, unable to sit in silence, unable to deal with problems. Pain has become agony and silence suffering.
As a culture too, we are in a hurry. Instant notifications, superfast internet, have ensured that life has come to resemble a pipe about to burst due to the sheet pressure of information. Things across the world are happening and apparently they are all important. And moreover, everyone's having the time of their lives, thanks to some amazing photo-work and background music.
Its just the sheer pace, the number of things that happen in a given period of time, that seem to scar my mind. In fact, every time I scroll a few reels, the feeling afterward is much similar to slap on my brain.
And so, I sit to write and advocate for slowness, against incessant pleasure, for conscious attention on little things, against hurried activity.
